What Are The Parts Of A Garage Door?
Garage doors are one of the most intricate parts of your home. It's important to know the main parts of a garage door system so you can identify performance issues and possible repair needs.

(1) Garage Door Panels
Normally there are 4, 5 or more panels in your garage doors. These panels are available in flush, raised and carriage house designs, which are joined by hinges that allow the door to bend and fold as it is lifted.

Garage door rollers move along the track and allow the door to travel smoothly when opening or lowering. Rollers are generally made from steel or nylon.

Lifting cables run vertically, from top to bottom, on each side of the door. Each cable connects to the door at the bottom and the drum at the top. These cables are the connection that transfers the force from the spring, which makes the door much easier to lift.
(8) Garage Door Drums
Cable drums, along with torsion springs, help garage doors remain balanced during operation. Standard-lift cable drums come in three diameters: 4″, 5-1/4″ and 8″. Each cable drum is labeled with its cable capacity embossed in the drum.
(9) Garage Door Strut
Garage door strut reinforce and strengthen the door, and are especially important for 16 feet garage doors. Struts also help your garage door function properly when opening and closing.
(10) Garage Door Retainer
The garage door retainer is a steel, aluminum or plastic piece that runs along the bottom of the door and holds the bottom seal in place.
(11) Garage Door Bottom Seal
The bottom seal is the rubber or vinyl piece on the bottom of the door. It runs along the entirety of the panel and is used to form a tight seal with the ground to keep out pests, insects, rain and snow.
